Students Engaged in Cybersex for Various reasons
June 19, 2008Students initially engaged in cybersex because it was perceived as novelty. According to Andrew Thatcher & Andee Feldman “student’s perceived cybersex as novelty” because students found the idea “new and exciting”, they were “curious” to see what all the hype was about. Other respondents felt that this new communication medium meant more intense and creative mind-sex. According to wikipedia, it can enable participants to act out fantasies which they would not act out in real life through role-playing due to physical or social limitations and potential for misunderstanding, which they would not engage in real life, such as those that are risky, not possible or practical to pursue with their partner, or are activities which the person has no desire to actually participate in, such as BDSM, homosexuality or rape. A common thread for continuing to engage to cybersex is the emotional and physical safety of the encounters. On the physical side the geographical distance means that respondents felt safe in the fact that they could not be physically abused. Therefore others pursue cybersex to explore fantasies, relieve stress or spice up their offline sex lives. Regarding to this matter, it indeed have its disadvantage and advantage that we also have to be aware.
